This is one of their newer generation of rods, and it does not disappoint.

The focus of this rod was on maintaining weight while increasing strength. They were able to accomplish this with a unique spiral core construction and graphite blanks.

This rod comes in a few different sizes, actions, and powers, dependant on what you need.

When it comes to helping you decide if you want to buy or not, I have included a lot fo specifications about the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0, but there is also a section on what others are saying about this rod.

A full Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 review would not be done justice if it was just my thoughts on the rod right? For this reason including others thoughts and opinions is so important, so be sure to check out that section below.

Lets get to it

Summary Table

Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 Review: The components

Construction Material

The core of the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 is made of 30 ton graphite blanks, these have a lot of break resistance to them.

Another important aspect of the construction is the spiral core construction process. This significantly improves the break resistance.

The Spiral core construction process is also super important for the tip strength of this rod. Since the rod has a fast action in most of its lengths, it is nice to have extra strength around the tip, since in faster actions that is where the majority of the stress is put on the rod.

Guides

When you think about fishing rods, I am sure that the line guides are one of those things that you don’t think about first right?

It is so easy to forget about the line guides, but at the end of the day the amount of contact that the line guides have on your line affects the line quite a bit, and if the guides are of poor quality then you risk having fraying or even worse cutting of the line.

The guides on the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 are made of titanium alloy to help with strength without sacrificing weight, and they have Zirconium inserts, where the line will actually touch.

The zirconium is important, this is the surface that the line will be touching and rubbing against. Zirconium is incredibly strong, so the pressure from the line when you land a big one won’t cause any issues, also it is incredibly smooth helping your line go over the material easily with minimal friction.

Reel seat

The reel seat of the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 has two unique features to it.

The first one is the extreme exposure design of the reel seat, meaning that it will have more contact with the rod blanks, which helps with increased strength, but also helps with increased sensitivity.

The more contact that the reel has with the rod blanks means that you will be able to feel the smallest of nibbles on the hook.

The other unique thing about this reel seat is the micro click hood design, which ultimately makes the reel fit more snug onto the rod itself.

Overall, the reel seat is another one of those things that I am sure you don’t think too much about when it comes to rods, but Abu Garcia has remembered it for you on the Veritas 2.0.

Handles

The grips on the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 are made of high density EVA. This is a synthetic material that has a lot  of durability as well as sensitivity to it.

These grips won’t break easy, and even more important is the sensitivity/comfort of the gips.

When it comes to maintaining sensitivity of a rod through the grips you need to have the right amount of cushion and give to firmness, and that is what the EVA material accomplishes.

This rod has a high sensitivity, high comfort, and high durability rating.

Action

The most common actions for the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 is going to be fast, moderate/fast, and moderate actions.

This is important because with the length of these rods, you won’t be doing a ton of heavy deep sea fishing with them, they are built for those quick lake and river type fish as opposed to the surf type fish.

Having a faster action will allow you to set the hook quick and land those aggressive smaller species fish (bass and trout).

This is why the construction process is so key, having a strong tip with a fast action rod will ensure that the tip doesn’t fracture off the rest of the rod.

Power

Power refers to a rods ability to bend under pressure.

The Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 has a medium to heavy power in most of its sizes. This basically means that when put under pressure the front maybe ¼-1/3 of the rod will bend.

This is key because of the action that most of these rods come in.

With the action, power, and construction material of the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0, it is designed for the more aggressive smaller species fish.

Now, I say smaller species fish, but trout and bass can easily get up to 15lb and above, so you may have large fish on the line, but in comparison to some of the surf fish these are considered “small species”.

Length

The Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 comes in a few different lengths. The most common two lengths for this rod are 6’6” and a 7’ rod.

I personally haven’t seen anything longer than that for sale when it comes to this rod.

This rod, as mentioned above isn’t a surf type rod, so having it be around 7’ is actually just about right for the type of fishing you will be doing with it.

Sensitivity

The sensitivity of the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 is fantastic. The combination of construction material and process for the rod core and then the EVA handles means you won’t be missing any of those small nibbles, and you will be able to feel everything as you jig on the bottom.

It is so easy to overlook sensitivity , but a rod with high sensitivity makes all the difference.

What others are saying about the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0

  • “Had it for a year or two, this is my favorite rod ever”
  • “Great sensitivity, very flexible, and strong”
  • “Rod is very lightweight, strong, and sensitive”

Rod Buying Guide: What you should know and look for

Rod Length

Most rods will come in a length of 7’ to 12’.

The longer the rod, typically means the further it will cast.

The key thing to know about rod length though, well the best question to ask yourself is what kind of water will you be fishing.

If you are going to be out in the surf on the ocean fishing then a longer rod may be worth the money to you. This is because you will get more distance out of the cast with it.

Also, those longer rods are a little more difficult to control the cast overall, so if you have a lot of open space as you would out on the ocean then that becomes less of an issue.

If you are going to be doing a lot of lake and river fishing, then a 6’ to 8’ rod would be perfect for you.

These rods will cast a good 30-50 yards out which is plenty of distance for those settings, and even more important they will allow good control in tighter areas.

Rod Material

The majority of rods you buy are made of aeroglass or graphite.

Both aeroglass and graphite are very strong materials.

Each company also typically has their own unique way of manufacturing the rod, so the difference typically isn’t the material that’s used, but it is the process that is used by the company.

The difference in each process can change the overall strength and the flexibility of the rod, even though it is made out of the same material.

Rod Power

When it comes to rod power you need to know that in the most simple terms this means the ability of the rod to bend.

This is important in determining what size lure and what weight of line you can/should use.

You should use lighter lures and lines with rods that have lower power.

You read power as ultralight, light, medium, medium heavy, or heavy.

If you are going to be doing bass and trout fishing like the majority of us do, then a rod that has a power in the light to medium range would be just fine.

Having a little bit of bend is nice, but the changes in power come into play when you start thinking about going after bigger species.

Rod Action

Rod action refers to two things really, the first is how far down the rod the bend will happen and then how quickly the rod will return back to a neutral position after it has been bent.

This typically ranges from slow to fast.

Slow action rods bend nearly all the way to the handle, and they will take longer to return to neutral. This is important because they will ultimately be slower in setting the hook than the fast action rods.

Fast action rods bend at the tip of the rod and return to neutral position quickly, making it so you can set the hook quickly.

If you buy a rod in the moderate to fast action category then you would be good to fish the majority of the fishing that we do in the US, ie. Bass and trout.

Rod handles

One of the most forgotten things to consider when looking at a new rod to buy.

The rod handle is so important because it is what you hold onto!

The most common materials for handles are cork, EVA, and rubber.

Each one of these materials helps maintain sensitivity and also has a moderate amount of comfort. The cork is the most comfortable material to hold of those three, but it also loses more sensitivity than the others do.

Reel Seat

The reel seat is the part of the rod that the reel will attach to. Having a snug fitting reel seat is important, as well as having a strong and spread out reel seat.

There is typically two caps that slide over the reel and thread down so you can tighten them. The more space that the thread covers the better because it allows more of the reel to be in contact with the rod, and this helps maintain sensitivity of the line.

Also, make sure that the seat will keep the reel on tightly, and not easily loosen.
